Tigray Youth Must Not Die in Sudan's War: An Urgent Appeal to the Governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea
Tigray Youth Must Not Die in Sudan's War
An Urgent Appeal to the Governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea
A growing humanitarian tragedy is unfolding on the battlefields of Sudan. Young men from Tigray are reportedly losing their lives in large numbers in a conflict that is not their own. Many have been drawn into a devastating war that offers them no future, no security, and no national cause worth the immense human cost.
The people of Tigray have already endured years of war, displacement, economic hardship, and profound human suffering. It is unacceptable that, after surviving one of the most painful periods in their history, they now face death on foreign soil. Every fallen fighter represents a shattered family, a grieving mother, and a lost generation.
Reports from the conflict zones suggest that the number of casualties is alarmingly high, with large numbers of bodies left on the battlefield. Regardless of political affiliations or military objectives, such loss of life demands immediate attention and action from regional leaders.
We therefore call upon the governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea to take urgent and decisive measures to prevent the recruitment, deployment, or exploitation of Tigrayan youth in the Sudan conflict. Both governments have a moral and political responsibility to safeguard human life and to ensure that vulnerable populations are not used as instruments in a war beyond their borders.
The continued loss of Tigrayan lives in Sudan serves no humanitarian purpose and only deepens the cycle of suffering in the Horn of Africa. Peace, stability, and development cannot be achieved through the sacrifice of young men in conflicts that are not their own.
The time has come for leadership, responsibility, and compassion. The youth of Tigray deserve education, employment, dignity, and hope, not death on distant battlefields. We urge the governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as all relevant regional actors, to act immediately to stop this tragedy and to protect the lives of those who should be building the future, not dying in war.
No more Tigrayan lives should be lost in Sudan's war. The killing must stop.
