Statement by Alkrty – Human Rights Activist and Child Protection Advocate 28 August 2025

After 500 days of relentless siege, the city of Al Fasher in North Darfur has become a graveyard of childhood. Starvation, displacement, and targeted violence have turned this once-vibrant community into a zone of mass suffering. Over 130,000 children remain trapped—cut off from aid, stripped of protection, and left to die in silence.

This is not a humanitarian crisis. It is a man-made catastrophe. It is a war on children.

More than 1,000 children have been killed or maimed since April 2024. Homes, hospitals, and displacement camps have become battlegrounds. At least 23 children have been raped or sexually assaulted. Others have been abducted, recruited, and used by armed groups. These are grave violations of international law—and they are happening in full view of the world.

The siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces has severed all supply lines. Health services have collapsed. Mobile nutrition teams have been forced to shut down. Over 6,000 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition are now without treatment. Without therapeutic food and medical care, they face imminent death.

This week, seven more children were reportedly killed in an attack on Abu Shouk camp. The Saudi Maternal Teaching Hospital has been bombed more than ten times. Thirty-five hospitals and six schools have been struck. These are not accidents—they are deliberate assaults on civilian infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Sudan is battling its worst cholera outbreak in decades. Malnourished children in overcrowded camps are now exposed to deadly waterborne disease. In Mellit locality, acute malnutrition has reached a staggering 34.2%. This is a record high—and a warning of what’s to come.

I call on the Government of Sudan, international actors, and all parties to the conflict:

  • Immediately implement a sustained humanitarian pause in Al Fasher and all conflict-affected areas.

  • Guarantee unimpeded access for the delivery of therapeutic food, medicine, clean water, and essential supplies.

  • Re-establish and protect UN and partner operations in the most critically affected zones.

  • Uphold international humanitarian law by protecting civilians, especially children, and safeguarding hospitals, schools, and aid workers.

Children are not collateral damage. They are not bargaining chips. They are human beings with rights, dignity, and the urgent need for protection.

The world must not look away. The siege must end. The killing must stop. And humanitarian access must be restored—now.
