Australia Exposes Iran’s Role in Antisemitic
Attacks: A Historic Decision to Expel the Ambassador
I welcome the Australian
government’s bold decision to expel Iranian Ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi and three
senior officials after uncovering Tehran’s direct involvement in antisemitic
attacks against Adass Israel Synagogue and Lewis Continental Kitchen in Sydney
and Melbourne.
This decisive step, announced
by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and confirmed by ASIO Director-General Mike
Burgess, is not only a diplomatic response but also a strategic act to protect
democratic values and safeguard communities against state-sponsored terrorism.
Why This
Decision Matters
Uncovering the Truth:
Australia demonstrated its ability to lead complex investigations. Prime
Minister Albanese confirmed that ASIO traced the funding trail from the
perpetrators on the ground to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Protecting Communities:
Expelling Iran’s ambassador and suspending Australia’s embassy in Tehran sends
a clear message—terrorism will not be tolerated.
A Global Model: Australia has
set a new standard for addressing Tehran’s malign activities, encouraging
thousands of organizations worldwide to voice their support.
Global Support for
Australia’s Move
Thousands of human rights
organizations across Europe, the United States, Africa, and Asia have endorsed
the Australian decision.
Hundreds of lawmakers and
governments worldwide described the move as “a strong message to all state
sponsors of terrorism.”
Jewish communities, Iranian
dissidents, and African activists in the diaspora praised the decision as a
victory for democracy and human rights.
My
Position as a Human Rights Activist
The culture of impunity must
end. The IRGC, which orchestrated and financed these attacks, should be
formally designated as a terrorist organization—not just in Australia, but
internationally.
It is time to stop the use of
religion and politics as a cover for cross-border crimes. I call on the
international community to stand with Australia and confront this threat
collectively.
