The Center for Truth and Knowledge strongly condemns the targeting of Soroka Medical Center in the city of Be'er Sheva, southern Israel, during the missile strikes exchanged between Iran and Israel on Thursday. According to reports, the attack resulted in the injury of 71 individuals and caused extensive damage to the hospital’s buildings and facilities, including shattered glass and debris spread across hospital floors. Patients were evacuated and transferred to underground shelters shortly before the strike.

We affirm that any deliberate attack on civilian objects—especially hospitals and medical facilities—is a grave violation of international humanitarian law. Such acts breach the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, which explicitly prohibit targeting civilian infrastructure or using it for military purposes.

Under international criminal law, including the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), deliberate attacks against protected medical facilities constitute war crimes, regardless of the identity of the perpetrators or the geographical context of the conflict.

We emphasize the following:

1. All parties must respect and protect civilian infrastructure, particularly medical institutions, during armed conflicts.

2. An independent international investigation should be launched to determine responsibility for the attack on Soroka Hospital and hold those accountable.

3. We reject any military justification for the presence of armed forces or the conduct of hostilities near medical facilities, whether by Iran, Israel, or any other party.

4. We call on the international community, including the UN Security Council and the World Health Organization, to take urgent measures to protect healthcare institutions in conflict zones.

At the Center for Truth and Knowledge, we remain committed to upholding the humanitarian and legal principles that prohibit targeting civilians and medical facilities, and we urgently call for the immediate de-escalation of hostilities to spare innocent lives from further suffering.
